The album features accompaniment by bouzouki player Alec Finn (of De Danann). The album was also produced by Alec Finn. Mary is also joined by Johnny (Ringo) McDonagh (Bodhrán) who is also a member of De Danann. Also included on CD
are a couple of interesting duets.
These include: Mary Shannon (Banjo/Mandolin) Brendan Gleeson (well known actor and fiddler) Maurice Lennon on fiddle. It also includes guest singers John Prine (Nashville) covering a Bob Dylan song 'Boots of Spanish Leather' with Mary. Also singer Seán Garvey Co. Kerry does a beautiful rendering of the song 'Gypsy Davey' with Mary. Seán also accompanies Mary on guitar on beautiful classical piece by Handel... 'Judas Maccabaeus'.
Also, as Mary is a native of Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo. She has covered some old music and songs from Mayo such as 'An Londubh agus an Chéirseach' was collected by Bunting in Ballinrobe, Co.Mayo in 1792. The song 'The Widow from Mayo' was written by a Mayo man in the 1950's. Moving away from Mayo, Mary has recorded a beautiful waltz 'La Partida' from Venezuela.
Other guests on the CD include: Jerry Mulvihill (banjo) Dan Collins (fiddle) Tommy Keane (pipes and low whistles) Jackie McCarthy (concertina) Frankie Lane (dobro) Paul Johnson (bass) and Rick Epping (harmonica).
As it is 12 years since the launch of her first and only CD 'Bright Early Mornings' (Produced by Steve Cooney) This is a very special recording. As Mary says herself "This CD is a celebration of friendships in music and song that are very close to my heart".
