This is Gerrys third banjo album, and its an absolute credit to him. His incredible technique is as good as ever, and his great musicality is evident throughout His choice of tunes is spot on and they include old standards and some of his own compositions.
On one track, a nod to American bluegrass, he makes the tenor banjo sound like it has five strings, with a drone accompanying what is already complicated playing. And on Tom Billys Jigs, a laid-back easy-going set, the playing is so joyful that the banjo seems to sing the tune. One of his own tunes is Rubys Birthday, a lovely contemplative piece for a new baby.
The whole thing is invested with such good taste and musical integrity that its hard to stop playing it.
