- Ed Harper - The Goatman's Litany
“A wonderful collection of song-stories. Ed sings with delight, humour and glee” Niamh Parsons.
After a near lifetime raising goats and tending his vast repertoire of rare English folk songs, Blind Ed Harper has finally stepped into the recording studio with some professional musicians to record his first CD. In this expansive collection of songs, sixteen in total, there are songs dealing with warring forces on all fronts...battles over love, lust, labour and the fruits of our love and labours. Hence the sub- title of ‘The Goatman’s Litany’ being ‘Songs of Work, War, Want ‘n’ Women.’ Pun intended!
Three of the 15 songs contain just vocals, including delicate tinctures of harmonic vocal backing. Another song from the American tradition rises like a historical ghost over a chilling solo fiddle accompaniment from Katy Salvidge, the featured soloist on the Academy Award nominated score for Good Will Hunting who features widely on this CD. The other 11 songs have musical accompaniment from the hugely experienced and accomplished Dave Howard, of The Oldham Tinkers, on mandolin, banjo and guitar. Some other tracks feature a subtle box, whistle and discreet tambourine.
