Helen includes songs from the Irish tradition including a song from Drogheda – ‘Sweet Duleek Gate’ which tells the story of a girl’s love for her sweetheart and her determination to leave the town where ‘some speak ill of my young man and more speak ill of me’ and her dream of a new life in America, free from spite and begrudgery.
Another strand on the record is songs from the U.S.A. ‘Rambling Boy’; ‘Worried Blues; ‘Tell me, Baby ,(Why you been gone so long/’ and ‘Lonesome Day’ have embedded themselves in the Irish repertoire.
