Tommy is from Portlaw in County Waterford, and is another piper who remembers hearing Johnny Doran in his youth. He has been an inspiration to hundreds of younger pipers through his classes and recitals at the Willie Clancy Summer School, where he gives freely of his time and music. The recordings here were made by Reg Hall in 1965, and show Tommy at his very best. It’s no exaggeration that there is some wonderful music here. Even ‘The Castle of Dromore’ where there are a few uncertainties and mistakes, contains some of the most amazing regulator work you’re ever going to hear.
