Michael Holohan’s latest album, The Road to Lough Swilly was released on August 19th, 2018. The double album features the title piece, five memorial tracks and a live performance of Running Beast. The Road to Lough Swilly was composed for uilleann pipes and string orchestra and received its premiere at the National Botanical Gardens, Dublin in December 2001. Each of its twelve movements explores an important event in the life of Hugh O’Neill, Earl of Tyrone. The movements make use of traditional Irish musical forms including reels, jigs, slip jigs and slow airs. This new recording of The Road to Lough Swilly features Mick O’Brien on uillean pipes, the RTÉ Contempo Quartet, the Boyne Chamber Orchestra and a host of other talented musicians. It was engineered by David Slevin. The five memorials are Marching to Drogheda, Sweet Dooley Gate, The Return from Fingal, Dark Lochnagar and The Bonny Light Horseman. They also feature Mick O'Brien on uilleann pipes, the RTÉ Contempo Quartet, the Boyne Chamber Orchestra and other musicians. They were engineered by David Slevin. The album was recorded at St. Peter's Church of Ireland, Drogheda in the summer of 2018.
