Shebeen provide a selection of music with a rare combination of strength and sensitivity.
This recording is proof of the resilience of the traditions of the North Connaught area and
although it could only be described as today's music today, it contains distinctive echoes of
the great music of the past.
Shebeen was formed in 1978 by accordion player Kevin O'Brien and banjo player Pat Sweeney,
both natives of Killargue, Co. Leitrim, next came Padraic Brennan of Gurteen, Co. Sligo, who
had already made a name for himself as a singer and guitarist. Finally they were joined by
Tommy Guihen, a black belt kung fu flute expert from Keadue, Co. Roscommon.
