Listening

Sound
In order to access the sound files contained in this site you will need to have either Realaudio, MP3, Windows Media or QuickTime players installed on your computer. Windows Media Player should come as standard on a new PC and you can download the others free from their sites real.com , mp3.com , apple.com. You can also buy more high tech versions of the players from the same sites. All of the formats can be streamed using any average modem and phone line resulting in good quality audio with very little download time.

Simply click on the sound file you want to listen to and wait for the first 10 seconds of the file to download to your computer. Your audio player will automatically begin replaying the sound file while downloading the rest of the audio at the same time. The result being that you don't have to wait a couple of minutes for the whole file to download before you can listen to it. All of the audio samples on this site are available in Realaudio format and some samples of the newer CD titles are available in MP3 format.

These audio samples are approximately 1 min in length and are designed to give you a taste of the recordings you are interested in. The samples are not CD quality but we hope they are of some use to you. No sound files contained in this web site may be copied or retransmitted unless expressly permitted by Claddagh Records Ltd.

Tips: If you have more than one audio player on your computer you should assign each one as the default player for specific audio files. Use your Realaudio player to listen to the Realaudio files. Use MP3, Windows Media or QuickTime players to listen to MP3 files. Using your Realaudio player to listen to MP3 files may cause a minor crash in the audio software and you may have to shut down the program.

Depending on your audio player you can adjust the settings by selecting the preferences (or options) menu and adjusting the MIME (or File Type) settings. Select the audio formats you would like your player to recognise and play.

Also if you have a slow phone connection you should increase the buffer size of your player to 30 seconds or more. Again depending on the player you will find these settings in the preferences (or options) menu. By the time you have played the first 30 seconds of audio your modem will have downloaded the next portion of the file. Give your modem plenty of time to create this continuous stream of audio as it helps prevent starting and stopping during playback. You need a very fast connection for your player to work well with a low buffer size.

Please be patient when listening to audio over the internet.
