About

From Waterford, David is now living in New York. He has been playing the uileann pipes since he was a boy, and though still a young man, his experience shines through on this his first album. Inspired by older local players such as his teachers Tommy Kearney and Jimmy O'Brien-Moran, David listened avidly to the music of Seamus Ennis, Leo Rowsome and Felix Doran. Wisely he waited for his music to mature before committing himself to publication. On a selection of dance tunes and song airs, he uses the instrument to its full capacity, accompanied only by his drones and regulators. Although he plays at a rattling pace (like Ennis at his best), his command of the instrument makes it seem almost stately. It is absolutely right for his material, and his musicality pervades his use of variation and understanding of melodic possibilities. The album was produced by Donal Clancy of the group Danu.
