In 1972 when Planxty recorded this, their first album, Irish music all at once moved in an extraordinary and exciting new direction! The magnificent body of traditional music compiled over many centuries changed its wardrobe and soon was clothed with new harmonies and rhythms bred of cross breeding with input from contemporary constructs, foreign cultures, and instruments never before employed in the music like bouzouki, mandolin, and even hurdygurdys.
