A Belfast man by birth, A.J. Potter (1918-1980) settled in Dublin in the early 1950s. He soon made a definite mark on the music scene; obtaining a doctorate in music from Trinity College in 1953 and rapidly establishing himself in the forefront of Irish teachers and composers. Gael Linn first released this collection in 1973 and it remains a vivid testimony to the versatility and virtuosity of Potter?s ability as an arranger of traditional Irish airs. The pieces chosen cover a wide range, illustrating several varieties of the great Irish heritage and include orchestrated versions of favourite Irish airs.
