Emma Houton is a New Yorker with a musical soul that was shaped by their roots in
Inishowen, Donegal, Ireland. Born to an Irish father in the U.S. and with the majority of
their family still living in Donegal, the spiritual connection across the pond shines brightly
through their majestic debut album, “The Bath”. Composed after an ethnographic study
into their Irish folk song roots and recorded as part of their senior thesis in electronic
music, Emma originally wrote The Bath as a piece for eight voices to be performed live.
Due to the COVID pandemic, she ended up recording all eight parts alone in her
childhood bedroom, mixing and producing it herself.
Born to an Irish father and raised a methodist, ‘The Bath’ sees Houton intertwine her
experiences of religion with her deep love for Irish folklore in a deeply immersive sonic world that is as cathartic as it is haunting.
